Supervising Property Appraiser

Under general direction of a Principal Property Appraiser in the Assessment Practices Survey Division (APSD), the Supervising Property Appraiser plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of auditors (appraisers and analysts) in the completion of qualitative and quantitative audits. The incumbent manages multiple audits at one time as they go through the various phases of the audit process and is responsible for the completion of multiple county audits per year. The incumbent also serves as a key member of the APSD management team and is a part of the overall management team of the Property Tax Department and Board of Equalization.

 

The Assessment Practices Survey Program is mandated by Government Code Sections 15640 through 15646. The program auditors (appraisers and analysts) conduct qualitative compliance audits of the assessment procedures and practices of the 58 County Assessors; conduct quantitative audits through the use of defensible, statistical sampling of representative assessments from the property tax rolls; and prepare final audit reports, which identify assessment problems and make recommendations for improvements.
